It’s not exactly difficult being a vegan in this day and age, with numerous plant-based restaurants popping up all over Birmingham and beyond. But finding somewhere that can meet the needs of a vegan diet, while also serving some of the highest quality plates for miles is a big accomplishment. So of course we think Land in the Great Western Arcade is pretty special.
Since its opening in 2021, Land has been undeniably Birmingham’s best vegan restaurant. It was even highlighted as one of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the UK by the Michelin Guide in 2023. ‘Inspired by the land’, the fine-dining restaurant showcases the very best seasonal veg, in bright vibrant dishes, with tasting menu options of either five or eight courses.
The Michelin Guide said: “Grab a seat at the raised rear table to see Head Chefs Adrian and Tony at work, helping those natural ingredients to shine using influences from across the globe. An intimate spot with sleek modern design, Land is nestled within the grand Victorian-era Great Western Arcade in the heart of Birmingham.”
Having proved that meat doesn’t have to be the be-all and end-all when dining out, the plant-focused restaurant is now expanding its premises. Not only will it be able to accommodate up to six more covers, but the kitchen will double in size, allowing for a higher level of efficiency. We’ll also the addition of a welcome area for guests, bar seating and two lounge chairs, as well as a wine table where guests can stand and socialise.
Adrian Luck and Tony Cridland, Co-Head Chefs of Land, said, “Land revolves around seasonality and showcasing the best produce from the land. We’re so pleased to be growing and extending with additional areas so more guests can enjoy what we do.”
If you haven’t had the chance to get down to Land yet, let this be your reminder! You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy, even legendary restaurant critic Jay Rayner is a fan, describing it as ‘vegan cooking to file under thrilling’. An eight-course tasting menu starts from £48, making it one of the cheaper Michelin Guide restaurants in Birmingham too. To book a table head here.
