Joe Lycett is hosting an extra special, one-off performance to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Birmingham’s historic theatre, The Alexandra. An evening with Joe Lycett & Friends with The Full Fatt Sound (Joe’s very own choir) will take place on Monday, December 7.
Joe’s relationship with the iconic theatre—“where he fell in love with the stage”— began back in 2003 when he was cast as Rusty Charlie in The Alexandra’s Stage Experience production of Guys and Dolls. He would go on to perform in youth productions of Fame, Summer Holiday, West Side Story and Copacabana.
He’d later work front of house from 2008 to 2010 at The Alexandra before, after establishing his stand-up comedy career, filming his More, More, More! How Do You Lycett? tour here in October 2022. This time, Joe Lycett & Friends will each perform their set, as well as incorporate The Full Fatt Sound choir.
“The Alex is where I fell in love with the stage. It’s a special and magical place to me, and I’m delighted and terrified to be bringing this one-off show here. But the main thing to know is that if you buy an ice cream, the spoon is in the lid,” said Joe Lycett, who will return to The Alexandra for his Do You Really Lycett? tour in 2027.
“We are really excited to be welcoming back Joe to The Alex this December and presenting an evening of comedy and music to audiences as part of our 125th birthday celebrations,” said Theatre Director, Simon Creed. “This year is all about highlighting the history of The Alex, and Joe is absolutely a part of that.”
