It’s been less than a month since Digbeth Dining Club announced the closure of Hockley Social Club, and I’m still reeling from it. But at least the team has plenty of good news to spread, too, including the launch of a new one-day festival for Sutton Coldfield, Good Stuff.
Taking place at the popular DDC location, Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club, the day-long ‘summer send off’ is promising a wide range of sweet and savoury traders, the region’s best grassroots musicians, and a whole lot more—with a circus workshop, silent disco, performers, inflatables, bubble machines and a world record attempt on offer.
Jack Brabant, co-founder-director of DDC, said: “Sutton Coldfield always gives us a brilliantly warm welcome, and the team at the Club are fantastic to work with – so much so that they are definitely one of our most popular locations with staff and food fans.
“We’re delighted to be announcing this new offer for the town and the West Midlands in our fifth year of visiting Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club. Along with a super line-up of food traders and artists, we look forward to seeing the summer off in style together.”
Taking place on Saturday, August 30, Good Stuff sees Hockley Social Club favourites Lucas D and The Ghetto Groove, Mr ‘M’ Milford, Ryan Evans, Shanty Town and Metz Jnr Band—who will be attempting a new world record for the most people simultaneously playing shakers in one location (shakers provided).
Musician Metz Jnr said: “Music unifies the planet, and in such polarising times, there is no greater joy than bringing people together. Using music, we aim to unite thousands at Good Stuff. Each participant will receive their own instrument – that they can keep -, with a certificate to say they took part in setting this world record.”
In DDC fashion, food will also be provided by the likes of Banquet 1415, Disco Fries, Duck & Roll, Only Jerkin, Street Chef, Street Souvlaki, Stripclub, Tacos El Pap, Urban Cheesecake, and Victoria Creperie. Tickets are on sale now from £12.50 for adults and £5 for under 16s (under 5s go free) here.
