Get ready to go, because a new go-karting track is coming to Star City next year. Featuring an 800-metre double-height track, each go-kart will reach a top speed of 45mph. This is just the sort of rush of adrenaline we were looking for in Birmingham!
Capital Karts are the team behind the new go-karting track. Their other track in London is the only other UK indoor track to reach these sorts of speeds. So the new spot at Star City looks to easily be the longest and fastest in the Midlands when it opens.
Looking to open in early 2024, Capital Karts has taken over a 39,000 sq ft unit as part of Star City’s new expansion. Using an electric motor over traditional gas karts, the environmentally conscious among us can speed along with a relaxed conscience. While no further specifics have been revealed about the Star City track, Capital Karts’ Canary Wharf site should give us some clues.
Adults sprint racing starts at £36, offering 20 minutes of racing against the clock to compete for the fastest lap time. But the “highly popular” Grand Prix race for £64 offers a thrilling race format: a 15-minute qualifying session and then a 20-minute race to the finish. Kids’ racing sessions start at £26 per person.
But Capital Karts is not the only big change happening at Star City, out near Aston Railway Station. Pakistani and Indian restaurant Shere Khan is expanding too and will soon include banqueting facilities. While the Indian street food brand Chaiiwala will move into Subway’s kiosk unit (which has just moved to a bigger spot.) There are also plans in place for a new drive-thru restaurant at Star City.
“Our aim with Star City was to create a truly unique entertainment and leisure complex for the Midlands,” said John Maddison, partner at Quadrant, Star City’s asset manager. “Adding the region’s longest and fastest indoor karting track and Birmingham’s first Taco Bell continues this ambition, and Shere Khan’s continued and extended lease is a great reflection of the site’s strong trading performance.”
Star City opened in 2000, providing a range of restaurants and activities for all the family to enjoy. A trip to Star City could mean anything from the cinema to ten-pin bowling, or a bite to eat at Taco Bell, Chargoz, Etci Mehmet, Nando’s, Pizza Hut, Shobha’s or Zauq.
