Taking place on the last Saturday of June, Armed Forces Day is the country’s chance to show support for those serving in the military—with events planned up and down the UK. To say thank you, National Express West Midlands is offering free bus travel to currently serving, as well as veterans and cadets.
The initiative, which is valid on all services across the West Midlands and Coventry, will only be active this Saturday, June 28. To benefit from free travel, military personnel, veterans and cadets should wear their uniform and present their military ID, veterans ID or military medal to the driver when boarding.
“We’re proud to support the Armed Forces and deeply value the important role they play in protecting our country,” said Antony Goozee, Managing Director of National Express West Midlands. “Offering free bus travel on Armed Forces Day is our way of saying thank you to those who have served and continue to serve.
“We are also very proud to employ many veterans and current reservists across the business. At this time of year especially we want to recognise the significant contribution they make to our company and our communities.”
As the major bus operator of Birmingham and beyond—with over 1,400 buses in its fleet—National Express was the first public transport operator in the UK to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012. This commitment to support the Armed Forces has offered not only travel discounts (through the Defence Discount Service) but plenty of career opportunities.
