From the annual Midlands Comic Con to its countless retro gaming bars and board game cafes, there’s no hiding the fact that Birmingham is a city full of nerds. But there’s no better activity for Brummies to put their puzzle-solving skills to the test than with a head-scratching escape room. Are you good at linking odd connections and seeing things from new perspectives? Get your mates together and combine brainpower to defeat these incredible escape rooms in Birmingham in record time.
1. Escape Live
You can’t find a more Brummie escape room than The Official Peaky Blinders Escape Experience. There is not one, but two escape rooms in Birmingham dealing with the notorious gang. Step into the gritty underworld of 1920s Birmingham, set either inside Tommy Shelby’s bookies, destroying incriminating evidence, or the Camden Docks to find out what London crime boss Alfie Solomons has planned. It even has its own 1920s-themed speakeasy.
If you’re sick to the teeth of Peaky Blinders activities, don’t worry, Escape Live has plenty of alternative escape rooms in Birmingham to enjoy, from casino heists to haunted hospitals. You can also explore the city of Birmingham with Escape Live’s outdoor escape game. Using an interactive digital map and an on-hand games master, you can help Sherlock Holmes on his latest case by solving a series of puzzles, challenges, and enigmas across Birmingham.
Escape Live Birmingham, 18 – 24 Constitution Hill, Birmingham B19 3LY
2. Houdini’s Escape Room
Harry Houdini was a master of escapology and lends his name to this exciting escape room. Located within Tenpin at Star City, Houdini’s offers three escape rooms of differing difficulties. Will you escape the doomed Titanic or an ancient Mayan temple? Or why not visit another famous Harry’s wizarding school (sort of) and complete a series of entry-level classes designed to test your magical power…

3. Exciting Game
Exciting Game offers a splattering of horror-themed escape rooms in Birmingham, like Shelter Z, Fun House and Jigsaw Trial (any decent horror and escape room fan will be able to decipher what these will be like). You’ll solve puzzles, find clues, and escape the room like anywhere else, but in a nightmarish environment that messes with your mind and gets your heart racing with live actors, unnerving sounds and plenty of jump scares!

4. Escape Hunt
You can choose from a range of themed immersive experiences at Escape Hunt, including city hunt adventures and play-at-home games. But discover an epic amount of 5* escape rooms across two locations in Birmingham. The fate of the universe is in the hands of Doctor Who fans on both Corporation Street and in Resorts World, where you must defeat the Cybermen and Daleks in 60 minutes.
If that’s not to your liking, though, you can discover a whole new world in an Aladdin-themed escape room; step into the Wild West and escape the bloodthirsty Bill French Gang; or tumble down the rabbit hole and save the Mad Hatter in an Alice in Wonderland-style escape room. Other escape rooms turn you into a spy, samurai or pirate.

6. Grand Escape
The objective is always the same: Escape the room with your team before the time runs out. So escape rooms are always made on their themes, and Grand Escape in Birmingham has some exciting ones to choose from as you discover clues, decipher codes and solve puzzles. Pick between the mind-bending fantasy of Alice in Wonderland, the Quest for the Holy Grail, the magical Wizarding World from He Who Must Not Be Named, a temple-raiding Mayan adventure and one of the hardest escape rooms in Birmingham, Room 1409.
Grand Escape, 96 Broad Street, Birmingham, West Midlands B15 1AU
7. Escape Brum
Whether you’re a family, friends or a work team, nothing will bond you (or tear you apart) better than one of Escape Brum’s escape rooms. Choose from one of four rooms, but only Labyrinth: Lord Barrington’s Folly has received global recognition when it was nominated for a TERPECA in 2024 – one of only 81 rooms in the whole UK!
Enter Lord’s Labyrinth, rescue the Minotaur, and collect as many tokens as you can before you escape! A great place to start, it’s a little on the easier side, however. So increase the difficulty with Lord Barrington Smyth’s other challenges, Blackmail, The Mystic’s Cabin and The Barrington’s Job. Escape Brum also comes highly rated by Escape Room enthusiasts like Escape The Review and Morty.
