As the birthplace of Cadbury, you would expect Birmingham to produce some astounding, chocolatey desserts. But nowhere in the second city does it quite like Eis Cafe in Small Heath. Since 2009, this halal restaurant has served some of the craziest desserts in town.
You can’t talk about Eis Cafe without first mentioning its Locoshakes. These jaw-dropping beverages – although you won’t spend much time drinking them – are decadent, indulgent, sugary sweet and Instagrammable. Stand-out star, for us, has to be the aptly named Monster Oreo, which adds Nutella with roasted hazelnuts topped with whipped cream, chocolate and honeycomb – plus a marshmallow – to the chocolatey heaven of a milkshake.
But other highlights include the S’mores Cookie Dough that adds a cookie s’mores sandwich to a chocolate chip milkshake; Blueberry Cheesecake; Fudge Brownie & Roasted Marshmallow; and Nutty Salted Caramel. Visitors can also order some more ‘normal milkshakes’. But if you ask us, these aren’t much less indulgent.
It would be amiss to not mention Eis Cafe’s other desserts – which are equally eye-catching! Freshly baked waffles, served with homemade ice cream, are just pure comfort food. While you can get your lips around dutch waffles, concrete cake and custard, Turkish kunafe, doughnut holes and more. How about washing it all down with a virgin mojito too?
Another crazy dessert creation from Eis Cafe is The Pizookie. If you haven’t guessed it already, it’s essentially a dessert pizza. Cookie dough topped with an array of dessert toppings – such as brownie bits, roasted marshmallows, pavlova, and so much more – all finished with a variety of chocolate sauces. We know what you’re thinking – now you really can have pizza for every meal!
Eis Cafe is more than about blowing your mind, however. Care and attention are placed into every dessert, all made fresh daily. And aims to be a coffee shop as much for the community as it is for Instagram. You’ll be returning as much for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere as you will for its indulgent desserts
