Let’s face it: no one could ever replace the perfect pair that is Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the cult classic Dirty Dancing. However, the cast of the Dirty Dancing musical during the UK & Ireland tour certainly comes close, bringing the iconic film to the stage. In a glorious blend of skilful dance performances and steamy moments, the show pulls on one’s heartstrings like there’s no tomorrow.
Playing at The Alexandra in Birmingham from Tuesday, January 19 to Saturday, January 23, 2027, as well as Edinburgh, Newcastle and Manchester, alongside other cities.
Based on the iconic 1987 film written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, the story is inspired by Eleanor’s own childhood. Boasting a phenomenal soundtrack and plenty of sexy scenes, the story follows teenager Francis “Baby” Houseman (played by Charlie Varlet in the UK & Ireland tour), who comes on a trip with her family to Kellerman’s, an upscale Catskills resort in the Borscht Belt. There, Baby falls in love with dance instructor Johny Castle ( played by Joel Benjamin), leading to her father’s disapproval because of his social status.

Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage is directed by Federico Bellone and choreographed by Austin Wilks, delivering plenty of noteworthy moments while keeping the film’s essence. Expect dance moves we all know and love, as well as showstopping performances from a phenomenal cast.
While turning a movie into a musical can be challenging, the staging seemed effortless. From a versatile set to a simple yet genius solution for the water scene, the show is a true treat for everyone watching. And let’s not forget about those fan-favourite songs – ‘Hungry Eyes’, ‘Hey! Baby’, ‘Do You Love Me?’ and the heart-stopping ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life’”!
