No other city in the UK knows how to celebrate Christmas like Birmingham. Not only do we boast the biggest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany and Austria, which returned two weeks ago (November 2). But Christmas in Cathedral Square is back tomorrow (November 15), bringing more foot stalls, festive cheer and Christmas lights.
The forty-stall market will open at 11 am and run every day until December 17. Over the five weeks, you’ll find everything from fine wines and fried chicken to macaroons and craft beer, as well as traditional crafts, ornaments, and gifts from local West Midlands traders. We’ll also see the return of the infamous Pigeon in the Park pub, with vendors including include Purecraft Bar and Kitchen, Vagabond Wines and Hookways.
But if you want to catch Christmas light switch-on event for the area, head down from 6.30pm to 8pm. Taking place by Birmingham Cathedral on Colmore Row the switch-on will comprise “festive cheers and entertainment.” Plus, there’ll be special guests, street acts and live music to coincide with Christmas in Cathedral Square. Special Goodie Bags will be handed out to those who signed up via Colmore BID’s newsletter.
Christmas in Cathedral Square is not the only Christmas lights switch-on event happening this week. On November 17, between 5pm to 7pm, over a hundred jewellery-themed Christmas lights will glow up The Golden Square in the Jewellery Quarter. Named one of the best switch-on events in the country by the Telegraph in 2019, you’ll find live music, fireworks and over 60 festive windows for you to admire.
The following day (November 18) Harborne Lights Up sees The Harborne Market celebrate its 1st birthday with over 50 traders from 10am – 3pm, before the festivities step up from 3pm – 6pm.
