Originally a library, later a bank, The Old Joint Stock is now one of the most stunning pubs in Birmingham thanks to its Victorian architecture and ornate detailing. It’s during the holidays, however, that the Grade II listed building takes our breath away. Arguably, the most Christmassy pub in Birmingham, it is decked out with festive decorations.
Think closer to ‘A Christmas Carol’, rather than a cheesy Hallmark movie. With glittery lights, silver baubles, and a giant Christmas tree at its heart, this pub will shake away any lingering ‘bah humbugs’ you may have. It’s literally opposite Birmingham’s Christmas in Cathedral Square craft market for extra festive feels too!
Of course, Christmas is all about the food and The Old Joint Stock is cooking up a storm for the occasion with a three-course Christmas menu – including turkey breast, or slow-braised beef, plus all the trimmings, as well as vegan and vegetarian options. And don’t forget to finish off the meal with Christmas pudding!
If you need to book a Christmas party, you can also book a festive buffet spread – with everything from Buffalo chicken wings to black pudding Scotch eggs, pigs in blankets, turkey sliders, mushroom arancini and so much more. And no festivities are complete without a glass of bubbly, but did you know The Old Joint Stock is also the UK’s highest seller of London Pride? Well, while in Brum…
What about the Christmas musicals?
We’ve not even mentioned The Old Joint Stock’s most unique aspect. The pub comes with its own professional 80-seat studio theatre. Opened in 2006, you’ll find a mix of productions all year round, but there are two in-house Christmas musicals this year!
The first is a topsy-turvy production of ‘Zanna Don’t!’ (December 4 – 15), which is set in a unique world where almost everyone is gay and a musical fairy, with a wave of his wand, brings true love to one and all. The second is the UK premiere of ‘Scrooge in Rouge’ (December 18 – 30), a “bawdy spin on the well-loved Christmas classic.”
