Can you believe it? 200 years of Cadbury! And to celebrate, the longstanding family attraction in Bournville, Cadbury World, has some big changes in store – and some even bigger celebrations (no, not that kind, wrong chocolate maker). With revamped areas, brand new zones and an immersive ride, Cadbury Chocolate Quest, coming this spring, there’s a lot in store.
To kick the party off, Cadbury World has unveiled a choc-tastic recreation of the original 1824 Bull Street shop made purely out of Cadbury chocolate. Standing at 85cm tall, weighing 30kg – which is the equivalent of 667 standard Dairy Milk bars – the chocolate shop took chocolatiers five days to make. Every element is hand piped or handcrafted, with every cobble and individual brick carefully created by hand.
John Cadbury opened his first shop 200 years ago at 93 Bull Street in Birmingham. Originally a tea dealer and coffee roaster, he also sold hops, mustard, patent cocoa and cocoa nibs. To entice wealthy customers, the shop was the first in Birmingham to have plate glass windows with mahogany frames which it is said John cleaned every day. To mark the re-opening of the newly revamped Bournville Experience in March, the impressive chocolate creation will go on display for all to enjoy.
What else is new at the Cadbury World?
The Bournville Experience has undergone a major revamp as part of the ongoing £8m investment by Merlin Entertainments this year. You can uncover the heritage behind the Cadbury brand, discover the Quaker ethics of the Cadbury family and learn how the Bournville Village came to be built. It also includes more than 1,000 unique pieces of Cadbury memorabilia and artefacts from the early days of the business.
“We are always so impressed by the stunning creations our chocolatiers create here at Cadbury World, and with such an important milestone year for the brand, this one had to be extra special,” said Colin Pitt, Education and Heritage Centre Manager. “We’re proud of the Cadbury story and guests of all ages really enjoy learning the heritage of the brand here at the attraction, so what better way to honour the 200 years of Cadbury than with a throwback to where it all began, the Bull Street shop!”
The new completely revamped Bournville Experience is part of a wider investment
programme for Cadbury World, with further ambitions for the much-loved, long-standing attraction. You will soon experience the brand-new Cadbury Chocolate Quest ride, a newly themed interactive Have a Go zone and an upgraded Advertising Avenue.
