When most people think of Bournville, they think of chocolate. But Burmmies know it for its beautiful architecture, stunning village green and tree-lined streets. The model village was purpose-built for employees of Cadbury – now the second-largest confectionery brand in the world. But is still as breathtaking today as it was during its chocolate heyday.
As part of this year’s Birmingham Heritage Week (September 8 to 15), Cadbury World is inviting you to discover the amazing history of Bournville village. Throughout the 10-day event, visitors to Cadbury World will be able to enjoy free guided walking tours, available each day, excluding weekends. Giving you a unique chance to explore Birmingham’s ‘chocolate village’.
“We are delighted to support Birmingham Heritage Week here at Cadbury World. The week itself presents the perfect opportunity for tourists and locals alike to learn about the history of the UK’s ‘second city’,” said Gerrard Baldwin, General Manager at Cadbury World. “We’re looking forward to welcoming guests to Cadbury World to enjoy a special tour of Bournville village, an incredibly important area in the history of Birmingham and the place we call home.”
During the tours, you will learn about Bournville’s fascinating past, like the revolutionary thinking of John Cadbury and his family’s campaigns for justice, equality and social reform. On top of exploring Birmingham’s unique ‘Factory in a Garden,’ and viewing examples of Bournville’s beautiful setting.
Before the heritage tour, you can also enjoy a self-guided experience of Cadbury World itself, where you will uncover a whole world of chocolate delights. Visitors can explore an assortment of chocolatey zones, discover the origins of the cocoa bean, and learn how their favourite sweet treats are made. Witness chocolatiers at work and even enjoy a warm pot of melted Cadbury Dairy Milk along the way.
To book your place on one of these free Birmingham Heritage Week Cadbury World guided walking tours, you will have to purchase a standard entry ticket to Cadbury World from £18.95. Just choose a date between September 8 and 15, excluding weekends, here. Entry between 12:30 and 1:20 p.m. should allow enough time to enjoy the attractions before the tour.
