The perfect job doesn’t exist, but I’m about to quit Secret Birmingham for Cadbury. Mondelēz International (who now owns Birmingham’s legendary chocolatiers) is looking to hire a part-time ‘chocolate taster’ in Birmingham – and it’s a position I’ve been training all my life for!
What does the role involve?
Can you taste, describe and provide honest feedback on Cadbury products? Working with a team of tasters, you will have to reach an agreement on many of their taste profiles. That means you’ll need a “clearly defined vocabulary” to describe products, but training will be provided to help develop your taste buds.
What do I need to apply to be a chocolate taster?
Mondelēz International is looking for someone who is:
- Passionate for food/beverages
- Honest when it comes to opinions
- Eager to try new, inventive products
- Communicative and able to build great relationships
You’ll also have to be free on one of three work schedules available (Monday to Thursday, 9:30 -11:30; Monday to Thursday, 12:30 to 2:30; Tuesday to Friday; 12:30-2:30) and you should indicate your preferred choice in your application.
If you have any dietary restrictions, intolerance or allergies, unfortunately, this job isn’t for you as you have to taste many products that contain gluten, nuts and dairy.
What benefits does it come with?
There’s no hint of an hourly rate or annual salary for this position, but the application process will ask you for your salary demands. Other ‘attractive benefits’ include: A performance bonus, contributory pension, life assurance, opportunities to learn, an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and and a flexible benefits programme (which includes gym discounts, private health insurance, restaurant discounts and more).
How to apply?
You’ll have to fill out an application form that outlines your employment and education history, as well as other role-related questions. You will also need to upload a CV. To learn more about becoming a chocolate taster for Cadbury head here.
