In 1902, the village of Bournville joined in with the rest of the country to celebrate the Coronation of King Edward VII with a children’s festival. Such success, the Bournville Village Festival became an annual event—taking place on the last Saturday in June—with the maypole at the heart of festivities.
The only times that the Bournville Village Children’s Festival hasn’t happened in its 120+ year history are during the First and Second World Wars and the Covid pandemic. But it’s always bounced back, and this year, it’s taking place this year on Saturday, June 27, 2026 (12pm to 6pm).
What is happening at The Bournville Village Children’s Festival?

As always, the maypole is the centrepiece, with children between 11 and 18 rehearsing for it since Christmas, followed by a crowning of the 2026 Festival Queen (this is giving Birmingham’s very own ‘Wicker Man’ or ‘Midsommar’ just a little, but we promise it’s all innocent).
On top, discover local makers in the craft tent selling a wide variety of handmade goods—from jewellery and crochet to homemade cakes—while there’s entertainment from local dance schools, a circus workshop and Magic Matt. Enjoy classic funfair rides and games, also, while tucking into food and drink offerings.
How much does it cost?

Entrance to The Bournville Village Children’s Festival is just £3 for a ticket ahead of time, but only £5 on the day, while children under 10 can enter for free. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. You will find the Bournville Village Children’s Festival at Cadbury Recreation Grounds.
