Thanks to Saltburn, grand country houses are all the rage at the moment. And while we doubt the owners of Blenheim Palace would appreciate you dancing through its rooms to Murder on the Dancefloor. You’re still welcome to visit this 300-year-old country house – as long as you act with grace and decorum.
So spectacular is it that Blenheim Palace was used as Buckingham House in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story – including the key dining moment between young Queen Charlotte and King George, while its famous Water Terraces were transformed into the enchanting outdoor space where the final ball takes place. It also appears in Season 3 of the Regency romance, out now on Netflix.
Currently, a selection of costumes from the show is now on display at the Palace, including the wedding dress worn by Queen Charlotte, her peach and green ensemble and King George’s corresponding dark grey and aubergine outfit. But it’s not the only time Belnehim Palace has been used for filming, it was also used as a location for films like Harry Potter, James Bond and Gulliver’s Travels.
You can learn all about the stories behind the scenes of some of the most famous blockbusters in cinema. But there’s so much more to do at Blenheim Palace than follow in the footsteps of Hollywood stars. Delving into the 300 years of history, which was home to the Churchill family – yes that Churchill family – for much of it. Discover the gilded rooms, grand portraits and historic artefacts everywhere you go.
If you’re into your fashion, the Icons of British Fashion exhibition heads to Blenheim Palace from March 23 to June 30, 2024. The blockbuster exhibition will showcase a creative curation of fashion clothing, accessories, archival materials, drawings, photography and patterns by an array of legendary designers, including Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney.
Outside of these incredible walls, you can enjoy a stroll through an expansive 2,000-acre parkland – including The Formal Gardens, which was created by world-renowned designers such as Henry Wise and Achille Duchêne. Here you’ll find the Water Terraces, the Duke’s Private Italian Garden, the Secret Garden, the Churchill Memorial Garden and the Rose Garden.
Looking for things to do with the kids? Blenheim Palace is also home to an Adventure Playground. This hidden world of adventure features everything from a network of tunnels to bridges and slides, as well as log swings, cargo nets, water jets, zip lines and more. Afterwards, get lost in the two-mile-long Marlborough Maze.
