Prices are always rising these days, but the cost of catching most trains these days is just eye-watering. So we can’t quite believe that we’re seeing this price slashed! You can now travel from Birmingham to London for less than a tenner. Avanti West Coast’s Superfare ticket is not always the simplest means of travel but is a lifesaver during these financially difficult times.
The Superfare ticket lets you book a train on a specific date, either in the morning, afternoon, or evening. You’re then given a specific time of travel 24 hours ahead of your journey, with Avanti West Coast offering cheaper seats on quieter trains. Sounds like a pretty good deal if you’re not in a mad rush!
Launched back in March, a Superfare ticket previously cost £12 – which was still a pretty good deal. More than 10,000 customers also thought so, as they have snatched up cheap travel to the likes of Liverpool (£15), Stafford (£12), Manchester (£20) and more places, to and from London. But this new Birmingham bargain is by far the cheapest.
A ticket between Birmingham and London Euston now costs £9 one way. So we expect this deal to only increase in popularity. Of those Superfare customers surveyed, two-thirds said they would have not travelled or would have done so by a different mode of transport. The number of tickets available on a route each day does vary, however, and bookings have to be made between seven and 21 days before travel.
Sarah Copley, Commercial Director at Avanti West Coast said: “We’re working hard to encourage more people to take the train and the new Superfare ticket on the Birmingham route, at just £9 for over one hundred miles, is great value for money. And with the fastest journey time of one hour and 17 minutes, the train is the best way to travel between the capital and the West Midlands.”
It’s not the only money-saver Avanti West Coast has revealed either. Following a recent trial on the Liverpool route, it is partnering with the rail upgrade business Seatfrog and offering customers a chance to bid for Standard Premium upgrades at a lower price. Those travelling from London can now upgrade for as little as £11 to and from Birmingham, as opposed to the normal price of £15.
