We might have missed out on hosting the Eurovision Song Contest to Liverpool, but Brummies never miss an opportunity to throw a party. Not getting sour about it, a massive Eurovision screening party will take place in Birmingham City Centre this weekend. As on Saturday 13, the whole of Europe will be tuning in to watch Eurovision and you can head down to watch it in Centenary Square. And the Birmingham Eurovision Fan Zone is free to attend too!
Kicking off at 3.30 pm, the screening party will also feature lots of live music and activities. Stick around until 8 pm when The Eurovision Song Contest will be shown on big screens, plus lots of “special effects and surprises along the way”. On top of free live performances and activities, food and drink traders will also be on site. But you can also bring your own picnics. Plus, there will be furniture and benches available to sit on.
While Graham Norton, Julia Sanina, Hannah Waddingham and Alesha Dixon will present Eurivison on the big screen, welcoming an expected 160 million viewers. The Birmingham Eurovision Fan Zone will be hosted by Birmingham-based drag artists Fatt Butcher and Ginny Lemon, of Ru Paul’s Drag Race fame. Eagle-eyed attendees might recognise Ginny from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.
This year, the UK hosts the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of last year’s winners Ukraine. Who, despite their epic win, had to rule themselves out due to the ongoing war. So, more than ever, we should all come out and support Eurovision 2023. But if you would rather watch the Eurovision Song Contest from the comfort of your own home, then you can catch it on BBC One.
The Birmingham Eurovision Fan Zone meanwhile is free to attend and unticketed, but to ensure admittance we suggest getting there early. There is a maximum capacity. But, wherever you find yourself on Saturday night, we’re sure you’ll be giving the United Kingdom’s representative for Eurovision 2023, Mae Muller, your full support. To learn more head here.
