Gone are the days when men just rolled out of bed and headed straight out. At the turn of the century, we discovered something called ‘looking after yourself’, and it’s only been growing in popularity ever since—which is why Birmingham’s men’s salon and barbershop, Shepherds, has just launched a dedicated men’s wellness studio.
Because while research shows that male spa-goers have increased by 346% since 2018, around 36% of men still associate spas with stigma, and nearly 30% feel existing wellness spaces don’t adequately cater to them. That’s why Shepherd’s Studio has been specifically designed with these men in mind.
“The idea for the studio has been in our sights for years,” said co-founder David Sturgeon. “We’ve always wanted to create a space where we could offer something more to the men of this city. After years of travelling and working in high-pressure environments, I wanted to build a space that elevated self-care for men.”
With Shepherd’s Salon already located on New Street, the award-winning team has now launched Shepherd’s Studio. Located within the Burlington Building, the space is designed to complement Shepherds’ existing grooming services, offering a selection of personal care treatments including waxing, reflexology, and massage.
What does Shepherd’s Studio offer?
Therapies are delivered by specialist Ranjeet Kaur, who brings 20 years of industry experience to Shepherds. Having studied in India, where she returns annually to refresh her skills, Ranjeet provides authentic Ayurvedic massage, a practice that is rarely found in the UK, which provides lymphatic drainage.
These types of massages help to boost immunity, release stress and flush out toxins, providing much-needed relief for the mind and body. To further enhance their specialised wellness studio, the studio has partnered with Dermalogica, the global leader in professional skincare, to provide expert skin treatments and therapies for their customers.
Ranjeet Kaur, Treatment Therapist, said: “The range of treatments we offer has been specifically designed for the men of Birmingham, and reflects the growing need for health and wellness services to fit within a busy working calendar. We offer a more elevated experience in The Studio; it’s an incredibly welcoming space, and I look forward to welcoming many clients over the coming months.”
