When the ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids of Giza, Birmingham was little more than a dense forest. In fact, the Second City wouldn’t be founded until 2,000 years after the country’s capital, Cairo. In recognition of its ancient role in human history, Egypt has earned the nickname ‘Mother of the World’, and it remains a must-visit destination.
But getting there from Birmingham isn’t actually all that easy. You’re likely to have a layover in Barcelona, Dubai, or Istanbul, while direct flights are nonexistent. But that’s about to change, as EGYPTAIR will operate out of Birmingham Airport (BHX) from Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and launch the airport’s first and sole direct connection to Cairo.
Expanding on BHX’s Egyptian network, alongside Hurghada (HRG) and Sharm El-Sheikh (SSH), the new Cairo service will operate four days a week, flying on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. It will also link Brummies to EGYPTAIR’s network across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, with onward connections via Cairo.
