One minute it’s sunny, the next it’s raining. Yep, looks like summer in England is back. But while the weather continues to be as unpredictable as ever, it looks like another heatwave will be sweeping the UK this weekend—just in time for Summer Solstice, aka the longest day of the year.
While Birmingham is looking at a decent 24°C on Saturday, June 20, our thermometers are threatening to reach 27°C on Sunday, June 21 (otherwise known as Summer Solstice)—it’s the day the Sun is at its northernmost point from the Earth’s equator, happening at exactly 9:25am.
The sun will rise at 4:44am and set at 9:34pm, providing Brummies with 16 hours and 49 minutes of sunshine. But the warm weather isn’t going anywhere after that. In fact, temperatures are expected to rise to 29°C on Monday, June 22, while staying at 28°C on Tuesday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 24.
This warm weather also coincides with the second England World Cup group game against Ghana. While kick-off isn’t until 9pm, expect pub gardens packed out for soaking up the sunshine. Can the Three Lions top last night’s 4-2 drubbing of Croatia?
What about next weekend?
Get used to higher temperatures, because they look to continue throughout next week and into the weekend—staying around the 28°C mark—this includes the final England group game against Panama on Saturday, June 28. There are predictions of rain coming on Sunday, June 29, but it’s safe to say, summer is well and truly here.
