May had a rocky start, but the sun is finally out in Birmingham. So where’s our nearest beer garden? Nothing beats sitting outside in the warm weather with a cold pint and good company. The only difficulty is where to go – with so many excellent value pub gardens to choose from!
As Google searches for ‘pub garden near me’ rocket up, Moneyboat has been ranking the best value beer gardens in the UK. Taking into account a pub’s TripAdvisor rating, value rating and 5* reviews mentioning ‘garden’, it’s created a list of the country’s most affordable pub gardens. And what’s that? A Birmingham has landed very close to the top spot.
The Plough in Harborne has been named the second-best value beer garden in the UK. Scoring a total of 81.08 out of 100, it only missed out on first place to Southampton’s Brewhouse and Kitchen (87.49). There’s quite the gap between it and third-place too, with The Kazimier Gardens in Liverpool only scoring 68.02.
Now, The Plough isn’t exactly a ‘cheap and cheerful boozer’, but it deserves its spot on a balance of quality and good value. There were 83 five-star reviews on Trip Adviser that made special mention of the pub’s garden – and let’s face it, it is special. The pub itself had an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5, while its price rating had a score of 3.9.
Bright, modern, spacious, green, there’s a lot of good things to say about The Plough’s beer garden. It’s not just for pints either. A bit of al fresco dining – tucking into a rand og pub classics, from fish ‘n’ chips to pizzas and burgers – never goes amiss at this independent gastropub. And, if you’re not local, you can even stay over…
It’s not the only Birmingham pub garden to make the top 10 though. Coming in eighth, The Distillery scored 60.36/100. Only 11 five-star reviews mention the garden, but its overall rating of 4.5 and value rating of 4.2. Moneybeat also compiled a list of the best beer gardens in Birmingham, which also featured The High Field, The Button Factory and British Oak.
