Had great plans to get fit this year that have already fallen by the wayside? This is your sign to get back on your feet and start running. It takes about 12 weeks to properly train for a half marathon, which is just enough time be ready for the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run during the first weekend of May.
The Midlands’ biggest running event prepares to welcome thousands of runners back to Birmingham’s streets this May—with both half marathon and 10k races on Sunday, May 3, 2026, as well as the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Junior and Mini Runs on Saturday, May 2.

With more than £10 million raised since 2017, fundraising remains a huge part of the Great Birmingham Run. From more than 50 female army veterans running for the Women’s Royal Army Corps Association to a former Birmingham Children’s Hospital baby raising money for the hospital, you can support something close to your heart.
What races can I enter at the Great Birmingham Run?
Minis (aged 3–8) can take on a 1.5km route, while Juniors (aged 9–15) will face a 2.5km challenge on Saturday, May 2—at the world-famous Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr, the centrepiece of this year’s European Athletics Championships. A Birmingham schoolgirl, told she might not walk when she was born, has already signed up!

Then, on Sunday, May 3, the 10k and half marathon races will showcase the very best of Birmingham—passing through the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul’s Square, the Mailbox, Grand Central, St Martin’s Church, Southside and Digbeth. Half marathon runners will also enjoy the greener sights of south Birmingham, with Cannon Hill Park and Bournville along the route.
The start line at Centenary Square will once again become a carnival of colour, noise and high-fives, framed by the Library of Birmingham, Symphony Hall and the Rep Theatre, as thousands of runners set off supported by packed crowds. Entrance is £35 for 10k runners, and £45 for half marathon runners.
