Activities on the lake
1. Lake Luzern
One of the best ways to admire this city’s breathtaking landscape is undoubtedly by boat. Lake Luzern is the fourth largest in the country and there are a number of different boat trips available to enjoy. From an hour round trip between Luzern and Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock on a catamaran to entire afternoons out on the water.
2. Canoeing and kayaking
Another popular boat-based activity is the Lake Luzern canoe and kayak tours. Offering both singular and tandem vessels, this is the perfect day out for families, couples and individuals alike. Your guide will lead you through a series of serene spots along the lake. And if you opt for a whole day tour you can even stop for a picnic and a dip in the lake.
3. Strandbad Lido
If you’d rather be in the lake than on it, we recommend visiting Strandbad lido. The Pilatus, Bürgenstock and Stansehorn mountains in the distance create a picture perfect backdrop for a day of swimming, sunbathing and relaxing. There’s also a playground and restaurant, so you can enjoy something to eat after taking a refreshing dip in the lake or the pool. Lidostrasse 6A, 6006 Luzern
Activities in the mountains
1. Mount Pilatus
Closest to Luzern city of the surrounding peaks, a visit to Mount Pilatus is great to combine with your boat trip. It offers spectacular 360 degree vistas over a number of lakes. If you’re feeling dare-devilish, the Pilatus rope park has ten parcours to explore, varying in difficulty. Alternatively, keep your feet planted firmly on the floor and walk the Pilatus flower trail where you can admire extraordinary wild flowers. And if you make it to the top, there’s an observation deck with a number of cafes and restaurants to explore. Talk about lunch with a view!
2. Mount Rigi
Mount Rigi or ‘Queen of the Mountains’ is almost entirely surrounded by water. But still easily accessible from Luzern, it’s another good option to incorporate into your boat trip. As you scale this majestic summit you’ll be afforded panoramic views over the Swiss Alps.
3. Mount Titlis
The highest mountain of its range, and the only publicly accessible glacier in the area, Mount Titlis is a popular peak for climbers and skiers alike. It’s also the only peak with guaranteed snow in summer, so you can enjoy everything from sledding to snow tubing at the Glacier Park. You’ll need to take a short train ride from Luzern to the Engelberg resort before starting your ascent on a rotating cable car. But whether you’re hiking or snow-sporting, standing atop this mountain will make you feel on top of the world.
Things to do
1. Bike Tours
A landscape as beautiful and diverse as Luzern was made to be enjoyed with scenic bike rides. And there are so many different routes to explore, varying in length and difficulty. But if you’re not an experienced cyclist, renting an E-bike is a great way to access the more demanding routes without too much of a challenge!
2. Glamping
Just because the day is drawing to a close, it doesn’t mean your adventure has to. Around the periphery of Lake Luzern are a variety of idyllic campsites, where you can spend the night immersed in nature (and your home comforts, if you so wish!). Visit TCS Camping Buochs Vierwaldstättersee for a four star camping experience, complete with access to Strandbrad lido and beach volleyball. Or set up shop at TCS Camping Luzern-Horw – the ultimate, peaceful lakeside haven.
Even the most adventurous travellers need moments of relaxation in their vacay. Whether that be a leisurely dinner with a gorgeous view, a rejuvenating spa session after a long hike or a dose of arts and culture. Factoring in time for some R&R after exploring the great outdoors is a must! And don’t forget that with The NatWest Credit Card, you won’t be charged foreign transaction fees on payments and purchases made while you’re abroad*.

Fine dining, with even finer views. That’s how we’d best sum up the experience at Scala. 6. Pikante
Taking the title as the country’s first ceviche bar, Pikante really is doing the most for Peruvian cuisine in Switzerland. This popular restaurant was also the first of its kind to open in Luzern, and the menu speaks for itself. Ceviche is a must, but there’s so many dishes to choose from. And the drink of choice has got to be a pisco sour. Klosterstrasse 4, 6003 Luzern
7. Restaurant Schiff
If you’re partial to a premium cut of meat, this is a must-visit on your restaurant itinerary. Divided across two floors, Restaurant Schiff is actually two eateries rolled into one. Both serve exquisite cuts of regional beef, dry aged in a special cabinet before being caramelised to perfection. You can enjoy this with excellent views upstairs in the historic parlour. But if you’re feeling like fondue, head down to the vaulted cellar for cosy Alpine vibes. Unter der Egg 8, 6004 Luzern, Switzerland
8. Aeschbach Chocolatier
It’s no secret that Switzerland has produced some of the most popular brands of milk chocolate in the market (think chunky triangular prism!). And you’ll be let in on some secrets of the trade at Aeschbach Chocolatier. Watch the masters at work in live demonstrations against the stunning backdrop of Mount Pilatus. Then have a go at creating your own chocolates for a tasty souvenir. ChocoDromo 1, 6037 Root
