With an almost cathedral-like aura, Wolverhampton’s St Peter’s has to be the grandest parish church in the West Midlands. But the 15th-century church is having a glow-up this November, with the 3D light projection show, ‘Lights in the Night’, returning to the city centre.
This psychedelic artwork was created as a celebration of “the rich history, heritage, and diversity of the City of Wolverhampton” and was last displayed in 2023. Playing on repeat every five minutes, you can catch the ‘Lights in the Night’ work again on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29 (from 6pm to 9pm).
Look out for a Christmas Carol performance at the church, by the Wulfruna Ladies Choir on the Saturday, too, as well as the ‘Light Over Darkness’ exhibition inside (5pm to 9pm, November 28; 11am to 4pm, November 29). This is all part of the city’s inaugural Fringe Arts Wolves.
Across the weekend (November 28 to 30), Wolverhampton will be shining a light on “culture, creativity, and collaboration” with exhibitions in historic and contemporary venues. It opens with a spectacular Lantern Parade, followed by after-hours workshops, music, and spoken word at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
Elsewhere, many pubs and bars will host live music and open mics, while Victoria Street fills up with the festive glow of the Christmas market. Visitors can also discover the Overhear Sound Trail and City of Youth Culture Murals. Other key locations include The Grand Palace, 01902 Urban Rooms, Eagle Works, Queen Square, Asylum Art Studios, Dive Bar, Lych Gate Tavern and The Qattery.
