When XOYO opened its sister site in Birmingham last year, we were curious as to how it’d add its unique twist to the nightlife scene here. Since then, it’s brought countless big-name DJs to the West Midlands and supported plenty of up-and-coming local talent. But the surprise hit has been Jawani Nights.
After four sold-out shows, the demand for this Panjabi culture meets underground rave party is unprecedented. It was only started in March by DJ Aza, an influential name on the music scene and tour DJ for producer Steel Banglez. But viral videos of its incredible atmosphere have seen Jawani Nights become one of the most talked about parties in Panjabi youth culture.
It’s back at XOYO Birmingham this weekend (Friday, September 27) – with the likes of Mix Singh, Harj Mathuru, DJ Bobby, DJ Kizzi, Rajan DNA, and DJ Bhavin set to perform. Surrounded by a huge crowd of ravers, they will step up in the 360-degree DJ booth and drop some brand-new edits guaranteed to get a major reaction.
What is Jawani Nights like?
Jawani Nights is described as “an explosion of energy and, as word spreads, each event keeps getting bigger.” DJ Aza selects DJs based on their unique and authentic approach and, for many, this is their first taste of a major club experience – often attracting attention with their remixes and edits online.
Jawani Nights is quickly becoming the platform for a new sound and authentic club culture. Musicwise, expect a lot of remixes and edits of big Panjabi tracks fused with drum & bass and cutting-edge club beats. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is electric, thanks to the DJ booth in the centre of the XOYO only amplifying the cohesion between DJs and dancefloor.
The night is almost sold out, but there are still tickets available. We’re expecting crowds from across the UK to be coming to town to experience this new school of DJs creating the “Panjabi Rave sound”. To learn more about Jawani Nights and to buy tickets head here.
