Typically, when we go out for a meal, there are a few key things we look out for: great food, tasty drinks and friendly service. But it seems ‘friendly service’ isn’t exactly something guests of Karen’s Diner should look out for when it opens this autumn.
Confirmed to open in Grand Central Birmingham this September, Karen’s Diner comes all the way across the pond from Sydney, where the diner has successfully allowed guests to live out their “Karen fantasies” since last summer. Sounds bonkers, right? But if you’re in need of a little laugh and a bit of mild relief after a long week of being nice to people, it’s actually a pretty cathartic experience. Each and every guest will be greeted by one of Karen’s rude waiters, who in return are expecting you to give it ‘full Karen’ whenever you visit. In fact, they even encourage you to “complain until the cows come home because we literally don’t care”.
While shitty service promises to be the main attraction of Karen’s, guests can also expect a surprisingly great menu of delicious burgers, with funny names such as the ‘I Want To See The Manager’ burger, the ‘Karen’s Got Real Beef’ and the ‘Basic Karen’. In addition to proper diner-style burgers served in baskets a la every American diner ever, the restaurant also serves up ‘Karen’s Chicken Bingo Wings’, too, as well as thick shakes and a lengthy menu of much-needed cocktails.
Cocktails follow suit with the inventive names, with cocktails such as the ‘Karen After Dark’ (made with dark rum, obviously), the ‘Sour Karen’ and the ‘Cancun Karen’ (laced with tequila and all things tropical, of course).
Speaking of the experience, their website reads: “Karen’s has crossed the pond and made its way to Birmingham. Get ready for a dining experience like no other with some great food and terrible service. Karen’s is not for the faint hearted but it’s the perfect place to dine if you dislike your friends, family and colleagues.”
The interactive diner is a first for the West Midlands after opening just last month in Manchester and Sheffield in March this year, providing a unique experience that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Details of the Karen’s Diner venue in Birmingham are being kept under wraps for now, but you can book tables from September 2 onwards here.
