The Christmas market we’ve all been waiting for is coming back!
Following its cancellation last winter, Birmingham City Council has revealed that the city’s popular Frankfurt Christmas Market is officially set to go ahead, returning with its numerous stalls in the city centre later this week.
Coming to Victoria Square and New Street, Brummies and visitors will be able to enjoy the event, with tons of food traders, gift stalls and pop-up bars set to return for the occasion, from November 4 to December 23.
The return of Frankfurt Christmas Market to Birmingham this year will mark its 21st year and there will be plenty of things on offer to celebrate the occasion. Bringing the festive cheer back to the city centre in the run up to Christmas, there will be stalls selling a tempting array of food and drink, traditional toys, ornaments and gifts.
Between 10am and 9pm daily (except for November 14, when it’ll be open 1pm-9pm), the market will bring the festive aroma of hot gluhwein, schnitzel and spicy sausage to fill the streets of Brum for seven weeks. With the planned public realm works around Victoria Square, and some Covid restrictions in place, the market will have fewer stalls this year, but will still bring lots of festive feels.
To add to the seasonal fun, Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham will also feature the return of the big wheel and the covered ice rink to Centenary Square, which will run from November 4 to January 9 next year, between 10am and 10pm, except on Christmas Day. You can book your ice skating tickets here.
Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria and offers a large range of traditional goods and gifts and a selection of tempting food and drink. Pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts, and roasted almonds will tempt your tastebuds, all of which can be washed down with gluhwein, weissbeer (wheat beer), or a tasty hot chocolate.
To also get you in the mood for Christmas, there will be a free live music programme on the stage in the heart of Victoria Square. Musicians from Germany and Birmingham will be back with lunchtime and evening music sessions Monday to Friday and performances all day Saturday and Sunday.
