Candlelight at St. James’ Church
St James’ Church was designed in neoclassical style by architect Joseph Bonomi and built in 1789 as a private chapel for the Earl of Aylesford. Its distinctive red brick facade distinguishes it from other churches built around the same period. The church’s most glorious feature is perhaps the organ built by Thomas Parker, that was outlined by none other than George Frideric Handel in 1749.
The spacious sanctuary, the historic organ and the outstanding acoustics make St James’ Church the ideal place for intimate classical music concerts. This month, you can catch magical tributes to two iconic bands, the Swedish disco pop supergroup ABBA and the legendary British band Queen. So, take out your bell-bottom jeans and leather jackets and get ready to rock out to eternal melodies, including “I Want To Break Free” and “Dancing Queen”.
Candlelight has charmed audiences worldwide and this season, it’s come to illuminate Coventry with two tributes, dedicated to celebrating the legacy of some of the greatest bands of all time. Enjoy the warm and relaxing ambiance provided by a sea of twinkling candles and listen to familiar songs, completely reimagined by first rate musicians.
The Candlelight series takes place twice each evening with two back-to-back 60 minute performances. Doors open 45 minutes prior to each show, which gives you plenty of time to snap a few pictures at the stunning church and find your seats.
Note: For the safety of our audience, all of the candlelight will be provided through flameless candles.
